내용요약(Abstract)

 

Cytosolic Ca2+ mediates diverse cellular processes in both animal and plant cells, including gene expression, cell proliferation, and neural processes. In stomatal guard cells, Ca2+ influx via Ca2+ channels in the plasma membrane and Ca2+ release from internal stores contribute to an increase in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration, leading to the regulation of stomatal movements. Plant glutamate receptor homologs (GLRs) have long been proposed to function as ligand-gated Ca2+channels based on structural similarities to animal ionotropic glutamate receptors. However, their electrophysiological properties and Ca2+channel activity-related signaling and physiological functions are poorly understood. Using an unbiased Ca2+imaging-based expression screen for Arabidopsis GLRs, electrophysiological and molecular genetic approaches, we demonstrate that GLRs regulate plant growth, stomatal movements, and germination in Arabidopsis. Detailed results will be presented. Cellular processes mediated by ROS will be also discussed.
